Even five years ago the market for sustainable cleaning supplies was still developing. Now there’s a gold rush out to capture consumers and they are spoiled for choice. So we wanted to share a few of the best known and loved brands out there.
What Makes a Product Sustainable?
But before we share these brands, we should probably be clear on what makes a sustainable product. Here are a few basics:
- Biodegradable
- Concentrated: products are smaller, lighter, easier to store, and cheaper to ship
- Plastic-free packaging
- Refillable
- No harmful chemicals, like phosphates, formaldehyde, chlorine bleach, dioxane, ammonium sulfate
Bonus if the products are plant-based!
Dropps
Dropps is known for its fantastic-smelling, plant-based laundry pods, which they debuted in 2005, long before Tide pods became popular. They also have wool-dryer balls to replace single-use fabric softener sheets.
Their products are made in the USA and are 3rd-party tested. They won the 2017 EPA Safer Choice Partner of the Year.
Blueland
Blueland offers climate-neutral shipping and is well-known for a great value starter kit. Need more evidence? How about 50,000 5-star reviews?
Grove Collaborative
Grove is known for a “better than Windex” glass cleaner and has a recurring subscription model. They offer carbon-neutral shipping and partner with charitable causes.
Branch Basics
If you search online you’ll find that Branch is legendary for a magic concentrate that works for so many different use cases. Just a few:
- Counter cleaning
- Floor scrubbing
- Laundry detergent
- Kitchen stove cleaning (yes, really!)
Despite how powerful these cleaners are, all Branch’s products are fully biodegradable.
Common Good
All of Common Good’s packaging is recyclable or reusable. They offer discounted subscription services and are child and pet safe.
